Competition 1 The Golden Oldies Rugby Festival is happening Sept 30 - October 2 2011 TWO things: Who will join us to create a steampunk XV and We want a Steampunk rugby uniform. A competition to design that uniform and add the necessary Victorian sci-fi components. The team must be able to play in it safely. $300 prize and entry into the Steampunk Fashion Show on 4th & 5th June 2011. What would we come up with?

Along with the usual fun and games Andrew Cook from Hobby Hub came to visit. He will be brought a display of the exciting steampunk table top war game Dystopian Wars and taught a few of our budding young steampunkers a few neat tactics and had two forces fighting a battle right before our eyes. Romance Rewound brought up their exquisite array of jewellery and had a reasonably successful afternoon with several sales. Visitors came from Oamaru and Dunedin especially to join in the swap meet and then went on to visit the Giant Robot which is nearing completion round at Smash Palace. |
WOW sensational results! The Oamaru Mail and SteampunkOamaru.co.nz SteampunkHQ train competition was judged last Friday. Absolutely inspirational. Well done folks.Here are the results: Winner Sonia Cullimore The judges were unanimous in their decision. Sonia showed great creativity and included all elements of Oamaru and the Victorian science fiction genre.
Highly commended: The Judges were very impressed by the high standard of all the entries and had a great time choosing the most outstanding entries. |

The first Swap Meet for 2011 was full of fun with many local Steampunks turning up to show off their latest creations and chew the fat on all subjects steampunk. Prof.Damo wore his recently created Rocket Powered Elevator Shoes that proved popular with all, not least his son who asked often for just one more trip to the moon. Neave R Willoughby visited with reports from the Shaky City and brought along recently discovered fossils for us to view. People from all over New Zealand and the world stopped for a chat and a giggle. Keep your eye open for the next Swap Meet date. You can come along and discover what Steampunk means in Oamaru and how it can bring fun into your life. |
