2018 Steampunk NZ Fashion Show, Sunday 3rd June
INFORMATION and TERMS and CONDITIONS
Your Entry
Deadline for registration is 15 March or as soon as possible thereafter (please submit your registration as early as possible even if your concept isn't quite ready - it helps us with planning :), and deadline for $60 fee per entry is 30th April 2018. We encourage you to connect with us as early in the process as possible, even if your idea isn’t fully formed, as this will help us in planning the overall performance.

The 2018 Festival Theme is Communication (150 Years since the Typewriter was invented) - Feel free to build your entry around this theme, but this is not a requirement. You should create the story that speaks to you!

Your concept submission will include:

Design portfolio describing the development of the construction of the costume of no more than 2 A4 sides.

Answering the following questions to assist your entry, taking up no more than two sides of A4 paper.

Name of the character wearing the costume.

Background of the character.
-
Role of the character:
-
Where does the character wear the costume?
-
Why does the character wear the costume?
-
How do they wear it?
-
How does the character use the functions of the costume?
-

Audience story.
-
A summary of the character and his/her/its context in the Steampunk world, to be read during the character's time on stage – 90-second time limit. (see sample stories from previous shows here)
Judges’ marking schedule:

Conceptual design/overall look - 50%
-
Quality of finished garment - 20%

Science Fiction component - 30%
Marks will be awarded for the concept, construction and potential of the Science Fictional functions whether or not they actually work.

Set up runway – chance to get the feel of the runway

First Rehearsal 10.15 – 10.45 / sequencing order, not costumed

Second Rehearsal 10.45 – 12.00 / full dress rehearsal

Entrants shall provide their own models, makeup and hairdressing.

Entrants may enter as many costumes as they wish . 1 entry per costume, which includes backstage pass for model and designer. No front of house access for the show.

Each designer must have completed the following by 30th April 2018:
a) registered and paid their $60 registration
b) sent in information/description for the judges
c) provided audience story for the event MC
d) provided music for the event DJ - all music must be copyright free. (For example, playlists on YouTube, old recordings / composer who has been dead for 50+ years, and the recording at least that old.) -
Entrants are responsible for any expenses incurred in the creation of pieces for the competition.

Entrants are responsible for all costs relating to travel to and from Oamaru, travel to and from the events, and accommodation.

Entrants must be available for rehearsal 9.00am on Sunday 3rd June, with full dress rehearsal and final judging at 1.00pm, and ready at 2.45pm for full performance at 3.00pm.

You must be able to walk through a door. There are no large access points at the venue and relatively small dressing rooms. You must be able to walk up and down stairs to the stage.

The judging panel will consist of four (4) Judges. Initial judging will be based on concepts, stories and other material provided for the judges with entries received by 30th April. Final judging will take place at the dress rehearsal, with prize giving at the afternoon show on Sunday 3rd June 2018. Judges will contact participants prior to the event to discuss their concepts, as necessary. There will be an audience choice winner as well as a winner and runner up for each category. (subject to change)

Entries must have a Steampunk/Sci-Fi component. Marks will be awarded for the concept, construction and potential of the Science Fictional functions, whether or not they actually work.

Winners will be notified at the conclusion of the show on Sunday 3rd June and awarded certificates and prizes.

The decision of the judging panel will be final. No discussion will be entered into.

All media recording of the event by Steampunk NZ is the intellectual property of Steampunk NZ to be used at the discretion of Steampunk NZ.

The Supreme winner will be selected only from those entries that have a complete outfit, character and background story.

Category winners and the Supreme Winner are required to exhibit their creations in the event of a Steampunk exhibition later in the year
